In a country whose past dwells with the kingdoms of kings, Castles are today the reflection of the richness of the nation’s tapestry. Yet, in a country where knights and ladies of the realm preferred their own versions of a fairytale castle, it is indeed of great difficulty to select a favorite. With many Budget hotels surrounding these enchanted castles, it is truly a perfect getaway for travelers without straining pockets.
Windsor Castle: In the charming narrow streets of Windsor, stands tall the home to the Royal Family of England, the Windsor Castle. You can plan out an excursion and spend the day both in Windsor and nearby Eton, just across River Thames. The palace offers a close-up view of the “changing of the guard” ceremony complete with parade for the onlookers which are a delight to watch. On Special occasions the queen even makes an appearance which is enigmatic. You may take a short train ride from central London’s Waterloo station.
Hever Castle: Next on the line is the Hever Castle. Situated about 30 miles outside London, the Castle has served as the childhood home of Anne Boleyn. With beautiful lush green gardens to stroll through during the day, this castle absolutely makes for the perfect ambience. One charming item on display is Anne’s original prayer book with her original signature. You can take a train from the Victoria Station to Edenbridge in order to reach the Castle.
Leeds Castle: Surrounded by a charming ambience with swans and gardens, stands atop two islands, the magical castle of Leeds. Originally built in 1199 for King Edward I, the castle was bought by Lady Olive Baillie in the early 1920’s. The Castle has also served as a home to Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon. This is a truly magical place to be at with your loved ones. You can take a taxi from Madison, Kent for the Castle.
Hampton Court Palace: A massive palace which needs a number of days to explore completely, Hampton Court Palace offers a great number of prospects to experience the palace in its true sense. You can even rent an apartment and stay overnight with your friends while you are out on an excursion. A number of tour guides offer to take you around the palace in a well guided set of itinerary. You must also visit the outdoor maze which is an exception for the palace.
Warwick Castle: Just under a two hour train ride from the Marleybone station of London, is the breathtaking view of Warwick Castle. The place has become quite popular with the crowds lately and offers custom tours through the castles and around. You can choose from a typical castle tour including the trip to the dungeon and the Princess Walk through the Pageant Playground for the princesses. Warwick castle offers enough opportunities to experience the bliss of royalty.
